Accident insurance for students

Under the Education Act, School Boards in the Province of Ontario are prohibited from providing accident insurance protection for students. The Council therefore recommends that all parents and guardians who want to benefit from insurance protection for their children join a plan of this type.

What do you need to know about accident insurance for students?

Accidents can happen at any time! Each school year, many families find themselves without financial protection when their children are injured at school, on field trips, during extracurricular activities, or at home.

If a student is injured, parents/guardians are responsible for any costs not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) or their employer's health insurance plan.

It is important to know that most accident-related expenses are not fully covered by Ontario Health Insurance and that some expenses such as ambulance fees, casts, crutches, physiotherapy and emergency dental care are generally not covered at all. This leaves you, as the parent or guardian, financially responsible for these unexpected and often high expenses.

To protect your family, consider purchasing accident insurance for your children.
